Ingredients

Filling:
  • 5 Apples
  • 2 tbsp Lemon Juice
  • cup Coconut Sugar
  • ½ tsp Cinnamon
  • ¼ cup butter unsalted
Topping:
  • 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • ¾ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup coconut sugar
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¾ cup cold butter unsalted

Method

Instructions:
  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. Prepare the apples: Wash and slice apples. Place the sliced apples in a large bowl and toss lemon. Add sugar, cinnamon, flour and toss until evenly coated.
  3. Assemble the filling: Spread the apple mixture evenly into a baking dish.
  4. Make the crumble topping: In a separate bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt. Rub in the cold butter with your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse breadcrumbs with some larger chunks.
  5. Top and bake: Sprinkle the crumble evenly over the apples. Bake for 40–45 minutes, until the topping is golden and the filling is bubbling at the edges.
  6. Cool slightly before serving.
Serving Suggestions
  1. Apple crumble is best served warm, ideally with: Vanilla ice cream or Hot custard

Notes

Optional additions: chopped walnuts or pecans
Why coconut sugar? Slightly lower glycemic index, less processed, contains trace minerals.
